Posted on: June 9, 2020

Go off the grid and where there are no roads!

If you’re looking for a mid-size truck with an powerful engine, powerful towing and hauling capability, and tons of impressive tech features, look no further than the Ford Ranger for sale in Austin, TX.

The all-new Ford Ranger is tough enough to get the job done while comfortable enough to serve as an everyday commuter. While Ford took some time off from making this model, the Ranger is back and better than ever. The standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine leads to accomplish hauling needs while still providing outstanding fuel economy.

Ford has a history of building the toughest trucks on the auto industry. The newest Ford Ranger features toughness we’ve come to expect from Ford. Through rigorous tests in conditions and situations, the Ranger proved itself to be a powerful machine. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine combined with the ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission creates 310lb-ft of torque and 270 horsepower. The EPA-estimated 26 combined mpg makes the Ranger the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its class.

The Ford Ranger is ready to take you anywhere. Built with a high-strength steel frame, an off-road chassis, and a powerful EcoBoost engine, the Ranger was created for the road. If you’re passionate about leaving the concrete for adventure, check out the FX4 Off-Road Package: all-terrain tires, a heavy-duty skid plate, and an Terrain Management System are included in this upgrade. Opt for the four-door SuperCrew cab to seat up to 5.

Mid-Size Truck with Big Functionality – The New Ford Ranger

Built to take on the outdoors, the new Ford Ranger is a brawny all-terrain truck ready for nearly any terrain you can throw at it. Available in three trim options (XL, XLT, and Lariat), the Ranger comes in either a SuperCab or a SuperCrew cab configuration. Plus, this new Ford truck offers up 4WD and 2WD drive drivetrain availability. One of the aspects about a mid-size truck is the versatility. Being able to squeeze into areas that a full-size truck might not be able to is one great characteristic that off-road enthusiasts might want to consider before springing for a full-size truck. Size isn’t the only thing that makes this Ford truck a great choice for Austin, Texas drivers, though. The Ranger offers an assortment of available tech, safety, and aesthetic options for drivers to choose from.

Trim Levels – XL, XLT, and Lariat

All trims share the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with auto start-stop technology. Tech features and safety options are the main distinctions between each trim.

XL Trim

The XL trim provides a solid list of features for those drivers that want a no-nonsense mid-size truck. Coming standard with a 2WD drive drivetrain, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, and an electronic ten-speed automatic transmission. On the interior and tech side of things the XL comes fitted with cloth bucket front seats, AM/FM stereo with four-speaker audio system, and auxiliary and USB inputs.

STX Trim

The STX is an appearance package that is in addition to the XL Trim. It has a Sporty appearance package with upgraded wheels and features.

XLT Trim

The XLT offers drivers more available tech options. With the Ford SYNC system, Ford Co-Pilot360 safety features, and FordPass connect 4G Wi-Fi modem, the XLT adds modern tech.

Lariat Trim

Bumping up the info system to the SYNC 3 and adding in leather-trimmed bucket front seats for added comfort, the Lariat moves the Ranger closer to a luxury vehicle. Plus, with intelligent access with push-button start and LED headlamps, the Lariat tosses in a bit of tech convenience along with performance. Livonia drivers searching for a mid-size truck that offers tech, off-road capability, and comfort might want to test drive this trim option.

Safety Features – The Ford Co-Pilot360

The Ford Co-Pilot360 offers Austin drivers a assortment of driver assistance and safety features to help while driving Austin, TX roads. The Co-Pilot360 includes:

  • Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Reverse Camera
  • Lane Keeping System
  • Blind spot information system with cross traffic alert
  • Auto high beam

Capabilities & Performance

In the SuperCab 4×4 configuration, the Ford Ranger can have a maximum payload of 1,650 pounds. The Supercrew 4×2 configuration has a maximum payload of 1,770 pounds while the Supercrew 4×4 configuration has a maximum payload of 1,560 pounds. Note that the Ford Ranger offers an optional Trailer Tow package which is required to get the maximum tow rating of 7,500 pounds from the vehicle.

The Ford Ranger is available in both a 4×2 and 4×4 configuration across all of the truck’s trim levels. Currently, this midsize pickup truck offers available trims like the Ford Ranger XL, Ford Ranger XLT and Ford Ranger Lariat trim. Each trim is available with both a SuperCab and a SuperCrew configurations.

Advantages of a mid-size pickup truck

One of the top advantages of a mid-size pickup truck is that it can operate in places that are difficult for a full-size pick-up truck. For instance, if you need to work on a city street in places like downtown Austin, TX

A mid-size pickup truck is also ideal if you want easier access to the truck bed. While full-size trucks do offer step-ups, it is typically easier to load items onto the back of a mid-size pick-up versus a full-size pick-up truck.

Finally, a mid-size pick-up truck is going to be most cost-effective to maintain and fuel. That’s because a mid-size pick-up truck will typically have smaller tires, smaller brakes, and a small engine. That means you will save not only when it comes to replacing parts but also when you need to fuel the truck for day to day driving around the greater Austin, TX area.

Finding your next Ford Ranger has never been easier. With Leif Johnson Ford in Austin, Texas you’ll find a wide selection of new and used vehicles.

The completely redesigned Ford Escape was designed, engineered and built for a life in motion. From the spacious new interior, to the sleek, head-turning lines of the exterior, the 2020 Ford Escape was built for adventure on the road and a lifestyle on the go.

Now with Co-Pilot360™ — an advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies that includes, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Auto High-Beam Headlamps, Lane-Keeping System and Rear View Camera. The New Ford Escape also makes additional technology available that is designed to help keep you in command, from the driveway to the highway.

Aside from a revamped exterior design that gives the Escape a sportier look, there’s a new base engine, an improved suspension and 200 fewer pounds’ worth of weight.

The Escape Hybrid also returns after a prolonged absence. It’ll be one of just a few hybrid small SUV’s available. A new plug-in hybrid model is also added, giving Ford its most buzz-worthy hybrid splash since the C-Max.

The redesigned Ford Escape offers more interior room than before, especially in the rear seat where a sliding second-row seat helps give a massive 40.7 inches of legroom. Folding the rear seats yields 65.4 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. It has seating up to 5 comfortably.

Other highlights of the new Ford Escape include an 8-inch freestanding touchscreen, a head-up display, and a bundle of driver safety aids (rearview camera, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot warning among them) dubbed Ford Co-Pilot360.

The heads-up display keep your eyes on the road. The available head-up display creates an image on a display screen in front of the driver on the windshield. This minimizes the distraction of having to look at the instrument panel. Head-up display keeps you informed with various driver-assist features that include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane-Keeping System, Navigation, incoming calls and more.*

Did we mention the available SYNC3? SYNC3 is Ford’s smart technology that lets you bring the power of Apply CarPlay or Android Auto to your Escape. Simple music search, touchscreen, enhanced voice recognition, and climate control to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

The Ford Escape is easy to drive, fuel-efficient and packed with the latest features, yet it’s also roomy and versatile enough for all the family can throw at it.

Ford currently has the S, SE, SE Sport Hybrid, SEL, Titanium and Titanium Hybrid to its Escape trim lineup.

How To: Save Money On Gas

Posted on:

Is gas money getting in the way of pinching pennies and saving dollars this summer? Leif Johnson Ford is here to give you some simple tips on how to save money at the pump!

gas

  • Don’t leave your vehicle in the hot sun, as this will cause gas to evaporate. Stay in the shade as often as possible!
  • Do use the right kind of motor oil. You can improve your vehicle’s gas mileage by one to two percent by using the manufacturer’s recommended oil.
  • Don’t lose your fuel cap. Gas is able to escape the system when the fuel cap is removed from your vehicle.
  • Do check your tire pressure. Checking your tire pressure once a month with a digital gauge, as under-inflated tires can decrease gas mileage by about 0.2 percent for every one psi drop in the average pressure of all tires.
  • Don’t top off your vehicle. Additional gas will only slop or seep out, and there’s no point for paying for gas that ends up on the street.
  • Do replace air filters. When the engine air filters get clogged dirt or dust, it causes the engine to work harder and your car will not be as fuel-efficient.
  • Don’t use high octane fuel. Premium gas costs 15 to 20 cents per gallon more than regular gas. Unless you hear your engine making knocking sounds, which could mean that the air-fuel mixture is incorrect, you shouldn’t switch the high octane.
  • Do buy gas earlier or later in the day, and earlier in the week. Gas is cooler and less dense when the temperatures are cooler. As it gets hotter, gas density falls and you get less of it when you pump. Gas prices also typically rise between Wednesday and Sunday, making the earliest days of the week the best times to fill up.
  • Don’t choose gas stations near the highway. These often end up being pricier than ones just a bit off the beaten path.
  • Do monitor your breaking. Excessive braking only wastes your gas and causes brake pads to wear quickly. Always try to keep a good distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you in heavy traffic, as to not tailgate or slam on your brakes.
  • Don’t keep your engine on at unnecessary times. Idling your vehicle is a big source of wasted fuel!
  • Do regularly tune your engine. A properly tuned engine wastes less gas. Leif Johnson Ford would be more than happy to help with this! Feel free to schedule an appointment with us by calling 512-454-3711.

These easy tips will help you save money and keep your car cruising happily along!

How To: Replace A Headlight and Taillight

Posted on:

The bad news: You noticed a headlight on your vehicle went out.

The good news: This is a fairly simple repair that can be done at home.

Your friends at Leif Johnson are here to take you through the step by steps for replacing headlights from the convenience of home!

ford

Here’s what you’ll need: New light bulbs  (Make sure to check online, your local auto or with our service department for what bulbs your vehicle needs.), alcohol wipes and tissues and a Phillips screwdriver

Replacing a headlight?

Step 1 : Locate the headlight holder. Access the headlight bulb through your engine compartment. Open your hood and locate the headlight near the front of your vehicle. You will find it in a bulb holder, with a power connector leading to the bulb.

Step 2:  Remove power wires. These will be attached to a plug at the base of the headlight and held by a plastic catch, a metal clip or a screw cap. Look for a small lever on the top of the plastic catch. Proceed to push down on it while pulling the plug out. If it’s a metal clip, pull it up and away and hold onto it while you pull. If it’s a screw cap, you’ll want to unscrew by turning it counter-clockwise.

Step 3: Remove old bulb: Now that you have disconnected the wires, you should be able to remove the back of the headlight holder. By holding onto the base, you should be able to remove the back of the headlight holder and the old bulb. However, you might also have to rotate the bulb to get it free.

Step 4: Install new bulb : Use tissues or gloves when using the new bulb to keep oils from your skin touching the bulb. Clean the bulb with al alcohol wipe before putting into your vehicle. Once this is done, place the bulb into the base of the plug. The bulb’s rubber gasket will not be showing if it has been installed correctly. Once the bulb is installed, go ahead and put the headlight holder in its original position and plug the power wires back in. Test the bulb by starting your car and ensuring that the headlight turns on.

Replacing a taillight?

There are a few differences to note in this process. Sometimes the housing with the bulb is removed from the outside, and in others you must unscrew it  from inside the vehicle. After unscrewing the housing, look for tabs, screws or small knobs to open the taillight cover and work on the bulb. If you need to remove the screws, be very cautious not to lost them. Don’t worry about removing the electrical wiring, but don’t pull the housing out too far as this can rip the wires. You should be able to unscrew the bulb by pulling it our directly or by pushing it in and unscrewing it at the same time. Once you have the new bulb in, replace the housing and reattach the screws, tabs, knobs or whatever else was initially removed. You will test the bulb the same as you would the headlights, by putting the key in the ignition and trying the brakes.

If you need any help with this process or just don’t have time to do it at home, feel free to call us at 512-454-3711. Ask for our service department. We’d definitely love to help with your headlight and taillight needs. If you have any other vehicle concerns during your visit, let us know. We’d love to help with those too!
